Microvas Microvascular Therapy (MVT) is a new mode of physical medicine that addresses the problem of diabetic and non diabetic peripheral neuropathy. It is a noninvasive and pain-free treatment. More than 85% of MVT patients have experienced improved sensation and reduced pain, and half of these patients have experienced full restoration of their sensation.
Microvas Treatments use strategically placed emitter pads in diametrical pairs so that a comfortable, deep penetrating waveform may pass entirely through the limb or other body area. Up to eight pairs of pads may be used in tandem to create an extended pumping action, which will improve circulation and further promote the healing process.
Initially, the patient will be evaluated for signs and symptoms of neuropathy. Certain testing may be warranted to further determine the extent and severity of the neuropathy and includes a nerve conduction studies and epidermal nerve fiber density testing. Once confirmed that the patient’s symptoms are due to a nerve related problem, we will begin microvas therapy. The patient sits down for the treatment. Emitter pads are placed on the foot, ankle, leg, and thigh. Both legs receive the therapy at the same time. At this point we usd the patient’s input to set the correct radiofrequency settings. The patient’s record of input to the tolerance of the stimulation are recorded and kept on file. We then activate the therapy and ionic impulses are passed through the body creating circulation in the treated area through neuromuscular stimulation of the venous muscle pump, and by upregulating the metabolic process. The therapy lasts for approximately 45 minutes and is usually well tolerated by the patient with no complications. We recommend for the patient to have biweekly microvas therapy in order to apromote increased vascularization and nerve regeneration.
Although individual results may vary, most patients report a decrease in the original symptoms of burning, tingling, and numbness. At the end of 8 weeks of treatment, balance is restored and quality of life is improved. Testing suggests that the process is cumulatve with repeated treatments, and the results to date have been long lasting.
